The Dionis Bennassar Museum and Foundation is located in the medieval town of Pollensa, Mallorca, in the former home of the late artist.
Its vibrant community, culture and surrounding natural beauty was at the heart of Dionis’s work.
Settled between the foot of the UNESCO Tramuntana mountains and the Mediterranan coast, Pollensa was recently named by National Geographic as the most beautiful town in the Balearics.
The municipality is also home to the serene coastal village of Puerto Pollensa, which Agatha Christie described as having a “view that in the misty haze of a fine morning had the exquisite vagueness of a Japanese print”, the old fishing enclave of Cala San Vicente, immortalised in its splendour by Joaquín Sorolla, and the famous Formentor peninsula, home to one of the world’s most iconic vistas, its crescent beach and the famous Formentor Hotel, recently taken over by Four Seasons.
And just as it was back in Dionis’s day, the town’s community spirit comes in equal measure, with numerous events throughout the year, and a notoriety for fiestas; the celebrations of the battle of the Moors and the Christians, and the Pine of Sant Antoni stand out as two of the most anticipated events of the island’s calendar.
It was by this beauty and vigour which surrounded Dionis that his life’s passion was defined, and, in his spirit, endeavours to continue through the work of the Dionis Bennassar Foundation.
